The crafts the connoisseur values
The designs on the following pages are selected examples of exceptional quality from the Titchmarsh & Goodwin archives, where three generations have compiled literally thousands of
classic examples of period furniture – the fruit of ninety years’ labour. The workforce is also a mix – of experience and youthful dynamism: craftsmen with skills honed from 30 years or more on the bench, and young apprentices, fresh from the company’s training and apprenticeship scheme. The result is a team of craftsmen that is second to none. Each skill is vital to the end result, although for the connoisseur perhaps the distinguishing feature of all furniture is the finish. This is where the company excels. There is no spray polishing at Titchmarsh & Goodwin. Each item is polished entirely by hand in upward of eighteen separate processes. The technique takes years to master. The hours of patient work give every piece an exclusive patina, the end result being a delight to behold.

The finishing touches
Inspect any piece of Titchmarsh & Goodwin furniture and you will appreciate the extraordinary attention to detail: the hinges, handles and escutcheons; the four-levered locks stamped with the company insignia; the steel keys, faithfully copied from an antique original; and the unmistakable Titchmarsh & Goodwin plaque. Each piece is rigorously inspected twice before it leaves the workshops. In the rare event of a fault due to poor timber or substandard craftsmanship, Titchmarsh & Goodwin unreservedly guarantee repairs free of charge.

Pride of work
A tour of T&G’s sawmill and workshops will reveal a workforce who have immense pride in their work. Because there is no production line, individual craftsmen and craftswomen can demonstrate their own unique skills on every piece, giving them true satisfaction by enabling them to add their identity to the items they produce.
